A Tribute to a Special Boxer

The History of the Tambay Boxers:

We acquired our first Boxer, Wienerwald's Flying Lady "Tanya" (Ch. Tisza of Hortobagy x Wienerwald's Malvine de Nobelesse), from Fritz Kosa in December 1976.  Fritz was Franz's boss at the time and he decided that it was time that we got a Boxer.  He also convinced us to start showing "Tanya".  Our first show was anything but a success!  However, in November 1977, under the late Mr. Basil Allen of Strathmere Boxers fame, "Tanya" achieved her first show success and we were hooked.  From Alf and Louise de Young we purchased a fawn bitch, Penelope's Pride "Penny" (Ch. Silver Crest's Dig My Scene x Ballyduff's Country Fashion of Silver Crest).

Basil Allen encouraged us to visit Mrs. Karin Rezewski in Bremen, Germany, during our overseas visit in 1978.  As luck would have it she had a litter of 5 puppies by International Champion Enok vom Schütting and out of World Champion Julie vom Schütting.  After long discussions Karin agreed to let us have a male of her choice from the litter.  So it was that Wiking vom Schütting joined us in South Africa.

In November 1979 our first litter was born from Wienerwald's Flying Lady "Tanya" and Wiking vom Schütting.  It was then that we registered the prefix "Tambay" with the Federation.

Our achievements to date:

Being a small "hobby" kennel we have never had more than 7 Boxers at one time, generally only breeding 1 litter a year.  Even so, through careful and selective breeding principles, we attained the title of Federation Breeder of the Year 6 times (once in the 80's, and in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) and Federation Runner-up Breeder of the Year 4 times (in 1991, 1996, 1997, 2003).

Our Imports:

Wiking vom Schütting

(Int. Ch Enok vom Schütting SchH 1 x World Ch Julie vom Schütting)

Bred by Mrs Karin Rezewski (Bremen,  Germany).  Wiking was inbred on the famous Int. Ch Witherford Hot Chestnut.  He was a pre-potent sire,  clearly stamping his progeny with excellent conformation and working temperament.  A Sire of Merit, he was (and still is) the top producing sire in the Federation with 20 champions and 6 points winners.  He was Sire of the Year for 7 consecutive years from 1982 - 1988.  What makes his achievement so remarkable is the fact that his progeny was competing against offspring from no less than 5 other imported males.

Ch Aralie vom Okeler Forst

(Ch Xanthos vom Bereler Ries SchH 3 FH AD x Bonny v.d. Pfenningsbrücke SchH 3 FH AD)

Bred by Mr. Ralf Brinkmann (Germany).  Aralie joined us in 1984.  She was a Dam of Merit with 3 champion offspring from 3 litters.  She produced one Sire of Merit, Ch Tambay's Seneca, who produced 10 champions.  Aralie had a "pink pedigree" which means that she came out of pure working lines.  Through the importation of Aralie vom Okeler Forst we established a proven producing bitch line, with 5 Dams of Merit in direct line:

Ch Osiris vom Okeler Forst AD

(Int. Ch Patrick vom Stedinger Hof SchH 3 AD x Hazel vom Okeler Forst SchH 3 FH AD).

(12 July 1992 - 11 April 2004)

Bred by Mr. Ralf Brinkmann (Germany).  Osiris joined us in 1992.  He was a Sire of Merit with 14 champions and 5 points winners.  He is the sire of G Ch Tambay's Dunja AD BH BT, who is also a Dam of Merit.  He was Sire of the Year 4 times (in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001).  He was a Multiple Best in Show winner and was Show Boxer of the Year in 1995 with 4 Best in Show awards and 1996 with 3 Best in Show awards.  We would like to sincerely thank Ralf for allowing us to have such a fantastic boy.

Ch Heureka vom Okeler Forst AD

(Eyck vom Saterland SchH 3 FH 1 AD x Ch (VDH) Yuca vom Okeler Forst SchH 1 FH 1 AD)

Bred by Mr. Ralf Brinkmann (Germany).  Heureka joined us in 2000.  She has won 1 Best in Show and 2 Best Opposite Sex in Show awards.  From her first litter her daughter, Tambay's Liberté "Lady", is a multiple Best Puppy winner and points winner.  She was bred recently to Ch Witherford Iced Mango (imp. U.K.) and we look forward to seeing some of these top quality puppies in the ring shortly.

A Tribute to a Special Boxer:

 Ch Tambay's Amarula AD BH

(30/10/1994 - 2001)

Ch. Tambay's Amarula AD BH, aka Aimee, is without a doubt the most successful Boxer we have bred to date.  She was originally reserved to go to Ralf Brinkmann in Germany but when the time arrived he was unable to take her.  In hindsight it was very lucky for us.

Aimee was a multiple Best Puppy winner.  Although she started slowly in the adult classes, she was quickly made up as a champion.  She was Show Boxer of the Year in 1998 with five Best in Show Awards to her credit.  She made history when she was again acclaimed Show Boxer of the Year in 2000 with 4 Best in Shows, a feat not achieved by a female in the Federation to date.

In between her show activities she also added the AD title to her belt for the endurance trial and BH for Companion dog.

From two litters she produced three champions, making her a Dam of Merit:  Ch. Tambay's French Spice, Ch. Tambay's Fleur de Chanel and Ch. Tambay's Intrepid.
